The starting point in my paintings is always something that delights me. Whether animal, object, or organic form, it is something that appears in a dream or runs across my computer screen and holds my attention long enough for me to want to convey the thought or emotion it provoked to you on canvas. Once the process begins the painting takes on a life of its own. The original impetus may fall into the background as trees begin to dance or a particular color comes into play. A dichotomy emerges between my recognition of the dark ways of the world and my perpetual belief in the presence of magic.
