The starting point in my paintings may be something delightful or something troublesome. It may be an animal, object, or organic form.  But it is something that appeared in a dream or ran across my computer screen and held my attention long enough for me to want to convey the emotion it provoked to canvas. Once the process begins the painting takes on a life of its own. The original impetus may fall to the background as the trees begin to dance or a particular color comes into play. A dichotomy emerges between my recognition of the dark ways of the world and my perpetual belief in the presence of magic.
